Office of the County Clerk

The County Clerk issues marriage licenses, registers voters, records probate filings, and keeps the official records of Lonoke County government.

What this office does

County Clerk services

The County Clerk issues marriage licenses, minister credentials, and Doing Business Under an Assumed Name certificates. Small estates and decedent estates are filed in this office, along with guardianships and adoptions — probate filings are the County Clerk's responsibility, not the Circuit Clerk's. The Clerk also registers the county's voters, keeps the county's vault of historical records, and serves as secretary to both the Quorum Court and the Board of Equalization.

Marriage licenses

Issued while you wait — no blood test, no waiting period, and the license is good for sixty days anywhere in Arkansas. Certified copies for name changes and benefits come from the same counter.

Before you come in

Voter registration & absentee ballots

The Clerk keeps Lonoke County's voter rolls, processes new registrations and address changes, runs early voting at the courthouse, and mails every absentee ballot.

Secretary to the county

Quorum Court and Board of Equalization minutes, probate filings, and the county's payroll and accounts-payable books — the Clerk is the official memory and bookkeeper of Lonoke County government.

Applying for a marriage license

One stop at the courthouse and you're set. Both of you come in together with:

  • Photo ID and Social Security card for each of you
  • Under 21? Bring your birth certificate as well
  • The license fee ($60) — payable in exact cash. Checks are not accepted.

Arkansas has no waiting period and no blood test. The license is valid for 60 days, anywhere in the state, and your officiant returns it to us for recording.

Need proof later? Certified copies for name changes, insurance, and Social Security are $5 — at the counter, weekdays 8:00–4:30.

Running for office?

Candidate filing runs through this office. Every candidate must sign and file the Political Practices Pledge to appear on the ballot, and petition signature requirements vary by office — call before you circulate. Campaign contribution & expenditure reports are now filed electronically with the Secretary of State's disclosure portal, not with the Clerk. See also the Arkansas Ethics Commission.

The county record

County records

The Clerk keeps the minutes, ordinances, probate filings, and books of Lonoke County government — public records, open to everyone.

Looking for deeds or court cases?

Land records and circuit-court files live next door with the Circuit Clerk. Birth and death certificates come from the Arkansas Department of Health — not the county. Tracing family history or a title chain? The Clerk's vault room holds historical county records used for genealogy and title searches — staff can point you to the right book.

FOIA requests

Arkansas's Freedom of Information Act makes most county records public. Ask at the counter or send a written request — a record that's in active use or storage must be made available within three working days.
