Recording desk

Recording a document

Bring or mail the original instrument with the correct fee. To record without delay, documents must meet Arkansas recording standards:

  • 8½ × 11 paper · 2½-inch margin at the top right of the first page and the bottom of the last; ½-inch side & bottom margins elsewhere
  • Grantor & grantee names, with a complete legal description
  • Original signatures, properly acknowledged (notarized)
  • "Prepared by" name & address on the instrument
  • Deeds: revenue stamps or exemption certification

The recording desk closes at 4:00 p.m. so the day's instruments can be indexed — arrive earlier for multi-document closings.

Property fraud alert

Criminals sometimes record fraudulent deeds against homes and farmland. If you suspect a document has been recorded against your property without your knowledge, call the recording desk at (501) 676-3043 — staff can check the index for your name.

Searching old records?

Staff can point you to the right book and page — title work and abstracting, though, are up to you or your title company.

Jury service

Jury service in Lonoke County

If you have received a jury summons, the information below covers reporting, what to bring, payment, and how to request a deferral. Call the Circuit Clerk at (501) 676-2316 with questions, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Yes. You will need to call (501) 676-2316 after 5:00 p.m. on the dates provided at orientation to find out if you need to report for jury duty. Jury service runs in four quarterly terms — January 1–March 31, April 1–June 30, July 1–September 30, and October 1–December 31. A seated juror cannot serve more than ten days in his or her term of service.

Business casual is a good dress directive. Shorts, halter tops, inappropriate t-shirts and muscle shirts, and dress of a similar nature are not permitted. No cell phones, purses, briefcases, satchels, backpacks, or book bags are allowed in the courtroom. Do not bring in knives, scissors, fingernail clippers, or other sharp objects.

Jurors complete their term of service and are paid with one check. You should receive payment within four to six weeks after the term of service. Mileage is not reimbursed.

You may request a deferment. A deferment does not excuse you from your obligation to serve as a juror; it allows you to transfer your term of service due to current circumstances. If an emergency arises, contact the Circuit Clerk at 8:00 a.m. on the day you are scheduled to report.

If you do not appear as summoned, you may be required to appear before the presiding judge to show cause. You could be fined, given community service, or placed in jail for not appearing.

23rd Judicial Circuit

Lonoke County's circuit courts are part of Arkansas's 23rd Judicial Circuit. Your summons names the courtroom you are to report to, and the circuit publishes juror information and the location of each courtroom on its own site: 23rd Judicial Circuit of Arkansas — juror information (ar23rdjudicialcircuit.com, a site outside lonokear.gov). That site does not use a secure connection, so do not enter personal information there. A browser set to use secure connections only may not open it.
